Heritage Cafe visit to Derby Museum

The Heritage Cafe visit to Derby Museum and Art Gallery was a huge success and we are grateful to Lucy Bamford, Senior Curator of Art and the Joseph Wright Collection, for her fascinating and absorbing insight into Joseph Wright of Derby and his work. Renowned throughout the world, Derby is proud to house the largest collection of paintings and drawings by this artist of the 18th century "Age of Enlightenment". An hour was barely time to scratch the surface and some of the group plan to return. The exhibition of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, some so small that a magnifying glass was required to see the detail, was an added bonus and
there was also time for drinks, snacks and chat in the Museum cafe. The painting being discussed is "A Philosopher giving a Lecture on the Orrery" (1766)
