Defibrilator/Life Support Training

I now have the names of eight people who would like to revise or learn the skills to save a life in an emergency. We have a quote from Derwent Training and I would like to get on with applying for a lottery grant. We could apply to train up to 40 people, however, so I want to make sure everyone who is interested gets a chance.  In three hours, you could learn enough to make the difference between life and death for somebody you care about. Please contact me on 01773 521557 or to register your interest. Christine

Picnic on the Green – Open Meeting on 22 May at 7pm

What lovely Spring weather we have been enjoying lately and Summer is fast approaching. Planning for the community Picnic on the Green has been continuing behind the scenes. We want this to be a real village affair and a genuine opportunity to meet, have fun and start to shape our future. We have live music, a great raffle with some super prizes, activities for all the family with support from the Police, Fire Service and Red Cross. Sadly, this year sees the final Well Dressing in Brackenfield but this doesn't need to be the end of the road. If there is an appetite for doing things in the village this could be a new beginning. There is an open meeting on Monday 22 May at 7pm in the Church Hall. If you are curious or if you could donate a prize, suggest people we need to invite or offer any help on the day, please come and join us for a drink and a chat.

6th April Neighbourhood Plan Meeting

Twelve people attended the "setting up group" meeting at the Plough on Thursday 6th April and it was really enjoyable to meet and chat over a relaxed drink. Joe Dugdale from Rural Action Derbyshire explained the next steps, which involve forming a steering group to lead the way through gathering evidence and consulting with residents and everyone who has an interest in the village. Nine people offered to take part in the steering group, however this remains open to anyone who feels they would like to contribute, in any way. All help gratefully accepted!  The next meeting will be at the Plough on Tuesday 2nd May at 6pm. Do come along, or contact us for more information.

Life Support/Defibrillator Training

You may be aware that about four years ago we were fortunate in obtaining a defibrillator for the village, from East Midlands Ambulance Service. It is kept on the wall of the Church Hall. EMAS also provided a training session for twenty villagers. There have recently been a few requests for another training session for new people or as a refresher. We would have to pay £500 upwards this time, depending on numbers, however there are grants we can apply for and we hope to raise funds towards this at the picnic in July. It would most likely be a three hour session one Saturday in late 2017/early 2018. In order to seek funding we need to demonstrate sufficient interest, so please let us know asap if you would like to take part. Phone 01773 521557 or email:

Neighbourhood Plan

There was an excellent turn out of 34 for the meeting on 9th February. Joe Dugdale, from Rural Action Derbyshire, gave a summary of the Neighbourhood Planning process and explained how this sits in the context of Local and National Government. After a lively discussion and sharing of views, there was a show of hands to decide whether Brackenfield should begin the process of developing a Neighbourgood Plan. This was agreed by a two-thirds majority and seven people offered to form the steering group, with two more coming forward after the meeting. The Parish Council is applying to the County Council to establish Brackenfield as a Neighbourhood Area, after which we will be able to apply for a grant to assist with costs. The steering group will convene and plan first steps, with the guidance of Joe Dugdale. If anyone who was not able to attend the meeting would like to join the steering group, please call 01773 521557 or email
